Tuesday’s new case count fewest in months

—
Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported only eight new cases of COVID-19 in BC yesterday, for a total of 2,232.
Four more people have died of reasons related to the virus for a total of 121.
There was one new long-term care facility outbreak reported at Evergreen House in North Vancouver. In addition, there were two new acute-care outbreaks reported: Richmond Hospital and Ridge Meadows in Maple Ridge.
In total, 17 facilities and five acute-care units have active outbreaks, with outbreaks now declared over at 17 care facilities.
Health teams continue to support community outbreaks, including contact tracing.
There are seven confirmed positive cases at Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry, 55 at Superior Poultry in Coquitlam and 35 employees confirmed positive at United Poultry in Vancouver.
There are also 134 inmates and staff confirmed positive at the Mission Institution federal correctional centre, as well as 15 positive cases of COVID-19 connected to the Kearl Lake plant in Alberta.
Dix and Henry said until a vaccine is broadly available—which could take up to 18 months—there will be continued restrictions, although some will be gradually eased.
A ‘new normal’ in BC will include continued physical distancing and good hygiene, as well as reduced non-essential personal travel.
